Rock & roll had NO EFFECT on Tin Pan Alley. What caused the demise of Tin Pan Alley was the rise of recorded music. Tin Pan Alley was ranks of the shopping streets, selling Scores in New York. Most people played instruments during that time and go to Tin Pan Alley to buy sheet music. Each store would be musicians, and vendors who played instruments, that plays music (hence the tin tray) that the client is selected, so that they (customers) to decide if I wanted buying sheets. Rock and roll music had no effect on this practice. However, when it became possible for the masses to purchase recordings, there was no need for that the masses learn to play instruments and worse without the need of the masses to go to the store to buy reams of sheet music …. the writing was on the wall. In essence, the first or rock and roll critics were right, although their focus was misplaced. It is not rock and roll, but the recording of rock and roll, among other types of recordings, illiteracy encouraged and caused the disappearance of an entire industry. On the other hand, have preserved some extraordinary performances from the original artist performances could and can be heard for future generations.
